Dr Norman Morrison

Dr Norman Morrison, (1869-1949), born and raised in Shawbost  He wrote several books on local history, folklore, zoology and politics. Best known as a co-founder of the Scottish Police Federation it has been more recently discovered that he was also a remarkable photographer who has left us a valuable series of Hebridean portraits.


The family of Iain 'ic Aoidh (John MacKay B1845) with his wife Anne Stiùbhart (born Morrison) with Oighrig Stiùbhart next to her. Behind them: Calum 'Ain 'ic Aoidh B1871; Seonaidh 'Ain 'ic Aoidh B1879; unknown; Catrìona 'Ain 'ic Aoidh 1877

Buinnidh na 'glass plates' a thog ceann ris an àm ron Chogadh Mòr (1914-18). Chaidh na dealbhan inntineach seo a thogail leis an Dotair Tormod Moireasdan à Siabost (1869-1949), fear a sgrìobh leabhraichean air cùspairean mar eachdraidh ionadail, ainmh-eòlas, beul-aithris agus poilitigs. Tha e ainichte cuideachd mar fear dhan fheadhainn a stèidhich Cairdeachas Albannach nam Polis.
